1888: George Eastman patented his No. 1 box camera and registered the trade name Kodak; within two years the camera had been bought by more than 100,000 amateur photographers.

1966: The crew of the starship Enterprise began its three-year mission to entertain American television audiences on the original Star Trek series.

1620: After several false starts, the Mayflower finally set sail from Plymouth, England, on its historic voyage to the New World; it carried 102 passengers in addition to the crew.
